Sir Edgar said:I don't understand your correlation logic here. Can you please explain? Does 3rd edition art look comic book-style to you? I don't know if I necessarily agree if you see some of the more "photographic" look of the illustrations out there (see Tempest in MM2-- awesome!)
I wasn't asserting a correlation yet. I just wanted to see. To me, subjectively it does look pretty comic book-ish and I'm seeing if there's anything to it or if I'm just misperceiving.
I suppose I was thinking more along the lines of pics like the goblin, or most of the Wayne Reynolds art. The proportions of the creatures are intentionally distorted to increase dramatic effect, which is a pretty classic technique in comic books. I'm not a comic book expert though so I could be off in my assertion here though. Feel free to set me straight!
For what it's worth, I think a slight correlation is starting to emerge (please correct me statisticians

Likes the 3e style:
no comics: 11/27 = 40.741%
some comics: 14/27 = 51.852%
lots of comics: 2/27 = 7.407%
Doesn't like the 3e style:
no comics: 14/19 = 73.684%
some comics: 5/19 = 26.316%
lots of comics: 1/19 = 5.263%
There is not a big enough sampling though, so maybe we can see when there is more data. There is also the problem of establishing causality, which this poll will not accomplish. Among countless other possibilities, comic book readers might just appreciate artwork more in general, for example. Perhaps a second poll of whether comic book readers/non-readers liked 1e or 2e art might help a bit in this regard?
