Do you plan to grab the new Star Wars Saga book to use for D&D?

No way, Star Wars is silly.
Hehe, I agree :). Nevertheless, if the mechanics are sound the game will the basis for some solid space opera. Just forget about that SW nonsense. I don't think that SW as a setting is salvageable in any meaningful way.

I plan on picking it up, for Star Wars.

It might give some insights on what's going on at WotC R&D about possible future rules revisions for D&D, either by them mining what's already been developed, or the future hypothetical 4e borrowing from Saga Edition.

Now, I may well loot Saga Edition for some crunchy bits to export to d20 Modern though.

Admittedly I'm wary of some of the changes, like the simplified skill system and fewer classes, but I'll take a look and see how it goes.

Even if I weren't picking it up for Star Wars, something that looks like a well-designed, space-opera targeted halfway house between d20 and True20 sounds like a Good Thing to me.

I will get it, because:
I like Star Wars,
I like what I see of D20 Modern (even though I haven't had the opportunity to play it),
and if this is a re-tooled combination of the two, then the result is most likely an improvement overall.

Hopefully one or more of my gamer cohorts will feel the same, and a SW campaign will come about. We almost got one started, then all of a sudden... no more SW support occurred, which apparently spooked us. Nobody wants to buy into dead systems.

Nah.

I'm buying it because it's Star Wars, and I'm a SW fanboy who even enjoys the EU (most of it) and the Prequels.

I may decide to use it in place of D&D for fantasy gaming. :-) (Owen, if you're reading this, you've done some Ravenloft work for Dragon--how hard will it be to tweak SW d20 SE for RL?)

But the difference in design philosophies and approaches, from what I've seen, is so different that any resemblance between SW d20 SE and D&D 4E is likely to entail a dramatic shift from what 3.5E has become.

I plan on picking it up primarily as a SW resource, but I fully plan to mine it for useful rules that could be helpfully included into my D&D games.
