Yup. They should mesh Move Silently and Hide into Stealth for one sneaky roll and Spot and Listen into Notice for one alertness roll. Also Disable Device and Open Lock together for one "take apart machine" roll. Sorry if I wasn't clear. I just disagree with all the people who think that Search needs to be lumped in there with Spot and Listen.Ron said:Although I can see the reasoning behind your argument, consider this: the sneaky guy, under the current rules, have to make a roll to Move Silently and another to Hide to move in the corridor without calling the attention of the guards. The latter, have to make two rolls, Spot and Listen, to percept them. In the end, to be sneaky requires two rolls and thus is more difficult than other skills, requiring much more points to keep in line. In game terms, lumping those skills only make the game faster to play and make the skill list more balanced.
A Notice skill would be largely reflexive involving raw keen senses while a Search skill would be very active and involve out thinking a person who hid a secret door or compartment. Elves would still get that bonus to Search AND Notice though since not only do they have keen senses, but it is also a reminder that they used to be able to see in UV as well. Anybody who watches CSI can tell you that UV is a handy searching tool in many situations.
I also think that Spellcraft can be removed and replaced with K:Arcana for arcane magic and K:Religion for divine magic. I just like the idea of a wizard who responds to "What is that evil priest casting!" with a Farnsworth-like "Ridiculous mumbo-jumbo again! Beat him in the head!"
