That is so twisted. I like it. I like it A LOT!
Where are you located? I want to play in your game!
Thanks.
Currently in Ohio (Cincinnati area). Ironically enough I was living just a bit north of Annapolis before moving back a little over a year ago (I am a Buckeye by birth).
When I get a chance I will try to sit down & put something together to give an idea of what I want to do with this campaign.
A couple of quick notes...
-The characters right now look a lot like The Breakfast Club. There is a Bully, a Jock, a Nerd, a Popular Kid and an Outcast (plus my NPC Normal Kid).
-The Dreamlands ARE Cthulhu's dreams! (Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtan).
-While mortals' dreams greatly influence the dreamlands, their dreams are invariably twisted by the great dreamer Cthulhu. (The "Dark Powers" of Ravenloft are probably a good parallel for this)
-The characters started out using the "children's" classes from Grimm. Once they are in the dreamlands, they may in time take levels in classes that more represent fantasy archetypes. (The classes from DarkLore are serving as the basis for the "fantasy" classes, with a lot of input from Grim Tales)
-If the characters take levels in the fantasy classes they lose their childish innocence and no longer have access to imagination points.
-Spellcasting for children is as per Grimm (imagination points).
-Spellcasting for fantasy classes is based on the Grim Tales mechanic (spellcraft checks & spell burn etc). Failing a spellcraft check causes a Will save, if the save is failed the caster gains corruption (as per Conan D20), while a natural 1 causes the spell to go awry (ie very bad things happen).
-Sanity rules will be used. Essentially a simplified version of CoC's sanity rules based on a D20 rather than D100. Bits from Grim Tales & OGL horror will be tacked onto the system (fight or flight & separate horror, panic & fear checks primarily).
-Most of the encounters in the dreamlands will involve "life lessons". For example they will encounter "The Pan", a boy who refuses to grow up. He keeps the still living remains of a pirate in a cage. Occasionally cutting off a piece and feeding it to a dire crocodile that is always close by. (Did I mention there would be pirates?!

). Pan is the leader of a group of lost boys, children who will not grow up and have given up their humanity in the process (think Lord of the Flies). They all worship an ancient crone who is quite vain believes herself to still be young and beautiful. Woe to anyone who disagrees with The Wendy!
-The campaign started with each of the characters being the lucky winners of a golden ticket!! Their prize being a tour into the mysterious chocolate factory of the reclusive Wonka...
-If all goes well the characters will "grow up" and the dreamlands will slowly fade...(When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. Paul 13:11)
-Once the players return to the "real world", there will be the little matter of a score to settle with Wonka (and his Tcho Tcho..err Oompa Loompa minions).
Of course not everything will be as it seems if they manage to storm the walls of the chocolate factory...
