Damn. Someone already picked Emericol the Chaotic. Okay then, Thor thumping the Midgard Serpent in Dieties and Demigods. Oh, and that Succubus hottie in the Monster Manual that inspired countless tattoos.
 



There was a sketch of a female fighter type and a skeleton in a trapped room that was filling up with water in the 1st ed DMG (I think). That same picture has made it's way into d20. I really like that picture. (It's also my favorite type of trap)

That picture in the 1E DM's guide where the water is filling the cavern and the fighter is trying to get out as the skeleton approaches him, evil intent apparent.
 

I like all the cartoon pictures in the 1e DMG. My favorite is

We'll, either it's some device which enables one to cast the 'Bigby's Hand' spells, or it's a +3 backscratcher. So far we're not sure which..."
