Do you remember your first RPG purchase?

Palladium Robotech.

I read the Jack McKinley novels in middle school and loved Robotech.

I never really understood the RPG aspects until I tried TTRPGs when I was 16.

Mentzer red box D&D from Trapnell's model shop, I would guess 1987 or 1988. Age 10 or 11. I was already into Fighting Fantasy books and White Dwarf and I already had some GW figures.

What was noteworthy was that when I tried to buy it, a man (fellow customer) in the shop said no you don't want that, here buy Runequest instead. But I was not swayed.

While I started playing D&D in 1980 or so (based on photocopies of a friend's set...shhhh), I'm pretty sure my fist actual RPG purchase was Top Secret in 1981 or so followed closely by Boot Hill.

First purchase was Two plastic bullywugs and a Carrion crawler from the local op shop.

Then Mum bought me the Basic red box to go with them.

My first purchase (not counting my original Christmas gift of the Holmes set) was a used copy of the Moldvay Basic D&D set at the Red Barn in California, around in '83 as I recall. I'd previously seen the set - a friend had a copy, but I wanted my own. I think I paid $6 for it.
