Do you still use your 1e DMG in your 3e game?

My original idea for this thread was "101 uses for the 1e DMG in 3e". Don't know if we can come up with that many, but let's try.

I also thought we could include uses of other 1e rulebooks, like Unearthed Arcana, 1e Dieties and Demigods, etc.

For example, I still use the Random Dungeon Generoator in the DMG.

Er..hmm..well, every now and then it gets busted out if anyone needs a random whore.

Hmm..actually, what DOES get used is the "potion mixing table" from the 2E DMG. I don't know if that was in 1E or not, but one of my DMs really loves to make potions explode in your stomach.

I got it out for Random Town Encounters and the Insanity descriptions. So, yes, it gets used from time to time, but mostly for inspiration.

Well, the potion miscability table was indeed in the 1e dmg.

Personally, I'm very happy with the 3e dmg; but when I was running 2e, I used the 1e dmg exclusively, since the 2e book was a bunch of reprinted sections from the ph and the magic items.

page 192...Harlot encounter table! Expanded my vocabulary when I bought the book way back when. The dungeon dressing in Appendix I was great too, as were the reputed magical properties of gems and the medicinal herbs & spices. Really, it had so much bizarre but useful stuff in it - there was always something new that Gary had stuck in in some strange corner.

I wonder how well a "DM's miscellany" book would sell for 3e...

I used the costs for buildings and hiring mercenaries in several campaigns. The cover has fallen off, but it is still one of my favorite books.

You must have really used/abused it. Mine's in better condition than most of my other gaming books - I wish they still made bindings like that!

(Or did you have a later version? I've got the efreet cover - that era of D&D book was just about indestructible.)

What I remember most about that cover was some of the troubles it caused me back in the early 80's:

Rel's parents - "We've been hearing some disturbing things about D&D being linked to devil worship and suicide."

Rel - "That is complete hogwash. Utterly rediculous."

Rel's parents - "What's with the huge flaming demon on the cover of the Dungeon Master's Guide?"

Rel - "Nevermind that."
