You need an option for people who are so amazingly smart, we have never failed to understand a rule. :p

That would be the I like donuts choice. You must not be as smart as you say you are.

Duh! ;)

I was just going to be bad and talk about how much I REALLY REALLY like doughnuts. Then I read your post, and decided to answer seriously.

I have never emailed customer support. The guy who regularly GMs is great and has a good grasp on the rules. So, he's likely to have a good answer to any rules question.

However, if there was something that basically stumped everyone, I would email cust. supp. to get a clear understanding of the rules.

To answer your last question, if I was given a wrong answer, I wouldn't be angry about it. I would write back in an attempt to get clarification. It would take quite a bit for me to actually boycott the service and tell people how awful it is...but eventually, if the person I was dealing with was being a jerk about it, I'd probably do so. On the other hand, if the person seemed to be making a strong attempt to figure out the rule, I'd respect that person.

Mmmm...doughnuts.

Nice Link !!

Cool, now I have somewhere else to get some info. on DnD games. I must admit I did not know that WoTC had a customer service department devoted to the clarification of rules on their games. Cheers !!!:)

I've never emailed Custserv myself, but the answers I've seen other people post are wrong more often than not - frequently directly contradicting a/ the rules as written, b/ FAQ answers, and c/ other answers by Custserv to the same question, sometimes on the same day, sometimes by the same person, and sometimes even within the same message.

This is my experience as well. I could see getting a "what did you mean by this" type of info from them, but when it comes down to rulings, I have seen enough bad info from them that I generally do not trust them as a sensible source of central authority.

I'm struggling to find an example of some of the worst ones, but it's been so long since I dismissed them as an authority, I have pretty much put it from my mind.

I'll join those who have said they didn't know this service existed and, like others, our group usually goes to the rules forum here for advice if we have a question on a rule we can't agree on. Now that I know it exists I may or may not use it.

I have never emailed WOTC Customer Support, but we did once call the 1-800 # in the front of the PHB when we were stumped in the middle of a big combat, so we took a 5 minute break, called the #, and got someone on the phone who was able to answer our question. I forget his name now, but he was our hero that night! :D

They have a 1-800 number? That's hilarious. Can we call it up and request one-legged dwarven rogue w/ crossbow miniatures?

I've emailed both the sage & customer support a couple of times. The Sage, I've either gotten no response (lost in the shuffle, or in at least one case, answered in a Sage Advice -- not my question exactly, but one close to it, so I figured that he got the question a lot), or I've gotten a decent one. But then, I was careful to phrase my questions so that an answer was as straightforward as possible.

Customer service -- I think I got a blatantly wrong answer once (contradicted by the Sage, IIRC), and an answer to another question altogether another time.

That was all some time ago, though, when 3e was relatively new.

I haven't ever e-mailed custserv, but I could potentially, if really confused about something. In general, though, I don't care enough about the rules to make sure I "have it right." If I can't figure it out, I just make up something, usually.

Oh, and I do quite like doughnuts. I've been spoiled lately, though, and don't want anything less than Krispy Kremes.
