You can not make an attack if you are not threatening.

Oops, sorry. My question is, are you saying that someone who doesn't have IUS cannot make an unarmed attack or are you saying that someone without IUS cannot make an attack of opportunity?

The discussion was recently revolving around the FAQ and threatening.

Hyp made a comment on the 2 choices available to interpret the FAQ:
(to paraphrase)

1. They are wrong

2. Being able to make an AoO is the same as being able to "threaten".

The point I was making was if 2 is true then regardless of whether you have IUS or not if you can't make an AoO you do not threaten.

Since being flat-footed means you can't make an AoO then you do not threaten when flat-footed.

If 2 is wrong and hence 1 is true then the FAQ is mistaken and all bets are off with this line of interpretation.

In this thread many people are against Hyp's reasoning, that I consider right, but they seem to have good arguments.

So, can I really threaten even if I cannot attack at all?
