I trust the DM because he plays by the rules, if something wonky happens - there is a rule for it, I just might not know what it is.

What I don't trust is his selection of adventures :D - we run through a lot of Goodman game adventures - and as much fun as I have playing them they always have some glaring rules hack or "WTF!? there goes my suspension of disbelief" event in them.

I know my GMs fairly well. Therefore, I trust them fairly well as people, because I don't tend to bother getting to know people I can't trust. . . or to know them well, at least.

As GMs? I suppose I do trust them, yes. It doesn't really occur to me to trust them in this way, or to not trust them in this way. They do their best (as I do when I GM), so what's not to "trust"?

Sure, I trust my DM.

If something weird happens during the game, I'll trust them to look after the game. After we're finished for the session, I'll bring up the aberration and talk, so we don't disrupt the game while still playing. I usually get a good response, so no issues there.

Of course, I'm usually the DM, so it doesn't come up much at the moment.

I approach every new DM with "mostly trust him".

If during my playtime with him I note some small weaknesses (weak rules knowledge, sometimes plots a bit lame, he can't handle a certain game element, etc.) he stays in that area and I have a fun time.

If he proves himself I quickly turn to trust him completely.

If he dissapoints my trust and falls into distrust. If I distrust my DM I grow uncomfortable and the game stops being worthwhile.

I expect my players to at least mostly trust me. If I find a player doesn't trust my DMing I grow simmilarly uncomfortable (though not as gamewracking) and would prefer that player to drop out.

Simmilarly I expect players to be able to trust the players that trust me. A player I find cheating, lying to me, etc. implies to me that he doesn't trust my DMing to provide a enjoyable game.

I do trust my DMs. They know their stuff. And they trust me when I'm DM. Doesn't mean we don't double-check the occasional ruling if it seems way off (if he says I take fire damage when I am immune to fire, I assume it's because he forgot, not that it's "special fire" or something).

I had a DM start off a campaign with a TPK. As the battle was progressing and it became clear that we were all going to die, I said to myself "cool way to start" because I could see that there would be some kind of "back to life, and now you owe me" type of thing coming down the pike. Unfortunately a couple of the other players didn't dig it and got pretty upset. I wish we could have seen what happened next.

I prefer an expression from my chosen field.

"Trust, but verify."

I never get offended when a player asks me to explain how I get to something. I know that they trust me on the occasion I say "I can't tell you without spoiling it for you." Because sometimes I do make mistakes on the rules. However, the definition of trust isn't in the pole, so Your Mileage May Vary.

*laughs uproarously* Yeeah... my DM is EJ, it doesn't matter whether or not you trust EJ... he'll mess with ya regardless.

But for the most part, he's an amazing DM. So any fudges he had, I tolerate (mainly because I feel bad about him overlooking some major things that have to do with the plot that I myself mess up due to my odd immunities.) But yeeeah, it's fine, he's good.

Like the above, I was "dominated" at one point... but I was a Lich, and therefore Immune to that stuff.... So I fried the Githyanki and walked away... stupid Psionic slavers....

This is an interesting poll. I guess I can't imagine continuing to play with a GM that you didn't trust. I'm wondering if someone who doesn't trust their GM could talk about why they continue to stay in that game.

I don't always trust my GM to interpret the rules in exactly the same way that I do, but then when he's running the show, it's his show to run. The moment I can't accept that fact, well, I probably couldn't stay around.
