If the EP enables you to outreach or get an equal reach to your enemies, then it's worth it. But if you are fighting creatures that will still be bigger than you, it's not worth the AC penalties.

You exachage a -2 to AC for a net 0 to hit, and a +1 to damage, and a size increase. While getting the free AoO on anything smaller then you coming into melee range is nice, it's a dubious bonus. Against anythng with magic or range, it's more harm then good.

In a PBeM I am in the party mage is always casting Enlarge Person on our front line dwarf cleric. Were it me in the front line (or the one getting Enlarge Person on) I would most likely turn it down.

Don't forget the extra damage for the larger weapon -- a d10 weapon becomes 2d8 when it grows to large, which is an extra +3.5 damage on average (about a 30% gain, before counting in the +1 or +2 extra from STR increase)

One of our frontliners has made a point to drink a potion of Enlarge at the start of every massive battle. But the other party members don't really use it.

In addition to the extra damage, it's +4 to Trip, Grapple, Disarm, and Sunder. Against creatures smaller than your new size, you can use the AoO from their movement to launch a nice attack while they can't AoO you. And you already have the Imp feat for a manuever, you can now dominate most opposed rolls with that extra +4. If you want to use special manuevers, you probably want to use Enlarge.
