Dodge

How would you rule Dodge?

Given there was no option in the poll for "Houseruled to flat +1 dodge bonus" I suspect a lot of people didn't actually choose other but tried to fit their rule as best they could into the listed options.

If the poll were re-done with the common house-rule option included, I bet you would find a different result.
I'm not sure how "Houserule" doesn't fall into "Other" but I suppose it's a possibility.

That's assuming the 'on any action' clause is not still limited by 'during your action'.
In post #40, I claim that if "on any action" really was limited by "during your action." Then the entire sentence "You can select a new opponent on any action" is unnecessary.

Since there isn't any other restriction on when you can use the feat other than 'during your action', then you could use it during any of your actions. However, because "You can select a new opponent on any action" is there, (assuming it's not just a frivolous sentence, ie assuming it gives us useful information) then that sentence means that you can select a new opponent on anyone's action.

Unless it's simply clarifying that the choice is not a once-per-combat deal.

Houseruled just like everyone else. been playing it that way since I first used the feat in 3.0.

it's the only sane way to use it. anything else and you're constantly forgetting and having to argue back and forth over whether or not that orc really killed you last round.

If anything, this is one example that reinforces the whole "the rules are not written in legalese" position. I'm all for clear rules in the first place, but I do believe intent needs to be considered along with actual wording. If a literal reading trumps the way even the designers have been using it, then people need to stop and say "whoa, back up a second."

I think this argument is one more good reason to just houserule dodge:)

You hear me WOTC!! Come on guys, you know you want to!! You've put epic feats into nonepic books, made new base classes, heck we've seen entirely new types of actions. Its time to give into group pressure and just make it official!!:)

There're a couple of feats which trigger on attacks from your "Dodge-buddy." How do the houserules folk handle these? (Or has it not come up? I guess the feats aren't that common.)

I'm with you on this one.

I'm pretty close to switching over to the "most common houserule" myself (or.. at least bring it to my players for discussion), but I know at least one of the PCS has the "Elusive Target" feat from Complete Warrior which grants special benefits to his "Dodge-buddy". So, thoughts on how to re-work those feats to adjust would be nice to hear.

Well I see 2 main options. You could rule it like dodge, and then it can apply to everyone. If you think that's too good, you can keep it like normal dodge. That way you only have one bonus to remember instead of 2, and if you forget, and lets you still get that +1 to AC.

I use the "most common houserule" and I used an NPC with Elusive Target, where I did your second option. The NPC picked one enemy to use the Elusive Target benefit against.

Given ALL the answers were variations on a houserule, other than the RAW answer, it looks quite likely to me that you're not getting a particularly clean poll result from these choices.
