Does a Blighter give up Druid spells?

Of course, couldn't you just make him a 5th ex-druid, 4th Blighter? or 5th Blighter? or however many levels of blighter it takes to make him the right challenge for the party? Is there some absolute need for the character to be 8th level?

I wanted a CR8 challenge, which this (technically) should be. With the blighter levels and the dramatically reduced spells available the villain would not have been up to it.

If a 5th ex-druid 6th blighter would have been the same kind of challenge that an 8th druid was... there is something wrong with the Blighter class. It becomes less a "prestige" class and more a "despised" class :)

It's only a loss in power if you're giving up Druid levels that you want in order to get the Blighter class. An ex-druid has already given up his druidic powers for some reason (went insane, felt that he was betrayed by his nature god, just flat out got sick of tending nature, whatever...) Such a character has dramatically decreased power levels. To him, taking on the Blighter role IS a vast increase in power, and a prestigious role, especially if he has an axe to grind with nature/nature deities.

On a related note, shouldn't ex-druids have a decreased CR? There's no way a 5th level ex-druid is still CR 5. They give up a vast number of their abilities. At a guess (completely off the top of my head), I'd say a level 5 ex-druid would be roughly a CR 3 encounter.

WHat does an Ex-Druid get? BAB, Hp, Saves. Wow. Ooo. Sounds like an NPC class to me.

I like the Blackguard/Blighter comparison, and the compensation, but I didn't think the compensation came until you surpassed 10th level?

Also, for those who like the Blighter concept, But find the prestige sucky, I have one suggestion for you.

Blight Magic.

It offers power to your villains, infact Serious power, but it also is a threat to them. Any spellcaster, Druids, Clerics, Wizards, Sorcerors and Bards. I Highly suggest it. It also lets you create some Really Wicked undead skeletons and Zombies, with real 'Against Nature' feel. This will *mess* with the druid or ranger in your party. Check it out!
