I don't think so. You counter the spell energy, not the caster.

Well, in the description of counterspells they say, that you target the caster, altho they speak of the ready action there, so it's a bit ambiguous. However, later they say, that the target has to be in range of the spell used to counterspell, again refering to the "target" of the counterspell.
