Yup, definitely--of course, since you've traded special mount away, you probably need Leadership or the Draconic Cohort feat to grab a mount-worthy cohort (and/or one that has more Strength than the rider).Klaus said:Throw in the Tremendous Charge feat from the DLCS book (on a charge, use mount's Str modifier to damage instead of rider's... lance has pass a DC8 Fort save or shatter).
I think the horse will explode...
Klaus said:Picture now a Paladin with the Charging Smite ability from PHBII (2x smite damage on a charge, in exchange for special mount). He makes a mounted charge with a lance (2x damage) and scores a critical hit. Damage would be 4d8 + (Str bonus x4) + (smite damage x5)!!!
That has GOT to hurt!

Exactly - any extra damage which is expressed as a set figure (Smite, STR bonus, Weapon Specialization, Favored Enemy etc.) gets multiplied; any extra figure expressed as additional dice (Sneak Attack, Flaming Weapon etc.) does not.Ogrork the Mighty said:IIRC, it's only extra die damage that doesn't get multiplied. Since smite isn't extra die damage, it multiplies (just like Gremlins fed after midnight!).
I went over this ability again yesterday. It adds +2/class level to your smite damage if you´re charging. So a Paladin 10 with Str 18 and Cha 16, while charging with a lance and the Spirited Charge feat does:Artoomis said:Nope. Damage is (unless I misunderstand the ability):
(d8+ STR bonus + (Smite x 2)) + (d8+ STR bonus + (Smite x 2)) + (d8+ STR bonus + (Smite x 2)) + (d8+ STR bonus + (Smite x 2))
You do not multiply the parts of the damage, you roll the damage more than once - if you look at it that way it's easier to understand.
Thus, in this case, it comes out to 4d8 + (4 x STR bonus) + ( 8 x Smite damage).
Right?
