D&D 4E Does anyone else feel like 4ed isn't really a new edition?

As the title says. I feel likes its more of another update. More like polished up some things and to added a bit. I don't feel as though they went and changed to a new edition.

From 2nd to 3rd, that was a new edition. They practicly scrapped everything, and began a new.

This 3.x to 4th ed though. Not so sure.

I think it's just because the change from 2 - 3 really WAS a big change... so people expect new editions to change that much now... But really look at the difefrence between 1 and 2... wasn't that huge.

At times, it feels like they're making a whole new game, between all the fluff changes to the setting and, more importantly, the massive changes to spellcaster resource management.

Personally I don't think we know nearly enough to make such a judgment. And even if it is the equivalent to an update, I've seen significant differences in game-play when MMOs have had a large update. The important questions are how D&D is going to 'improve' and what 'glitches' rear their ugly mugs.

Dude, from 1st to 2nd edition, about as much changed in D&D as 3.0 to 3.5, so I cannot see how you can sanely argue that 4E, based on existing evidence, isn't more of a change.

From what we know they're significant changes to:
* the magic system
* skills
* monsters
* classes
* races
* feats (something about feat chains was mentioned I think)
* encounter mechanics
* multiclassing
* weapon maneuvers
* prestige classes (I think this has been mentioned)
... others

Seems to me that they are reevaluating the game from the ground up. Makes it feel like a new edition to me.
