yeah, like no longer printing the 2014 PHB... wow, what other product ever went out of print or is no longer playing at movie theatres, totally unheard of
I refer to the tactics of pressuring people to conform to a new "standard" by actively making it difficult to continue with the old one. Just because it's commonly done doesn't make it good.

the example given makes perfect sense for a store trying to sell you products. No one is forcing you to play 1DD, heck clearly no one is forcing you to play WotC’s 5e either, but if you want to play in a store, you literally play by their rules, just like a restaurant can refuse service, or any other shop for that matter.

You cannot play 1e, 3e or 4e there either and no one complained, they just stay consistent with their existing policy.

Also, no longer printing 2014 PHBs is not forcing you to move to 2024 PHBs either, since presumably you already own them. It just means new players will be introduced to the current version of the game, pretty much just like at any other time during the last 50 years, so nothing changed there either.

At least the store is treating it as the new edition it is. There's comfort in that.

In a cold-blooded way, it never does anyone any good to split their market, and almost every business knows that.
