D&D (2024) Does anyone else think that 1D&D will create a significant divide in the community?

Ye

Does not matter to me. Does not matter for WotC. New people come and play the newest game. Sticking to the old rules also splits the community. People who are bored already have moved on. For example @Micah Sweet already is all in on LevelUp. No matter what WotC does, WotC does not get money from them.
It is the new Generation of gamers who don't have all the books they need.
Producing an outdated game does not bring in new customers.
Regardless of my personal feelings, there are an awful lot of fans of this "outdated" game. Any interest in appealing to them? Or is WotC just interested in getting hypothetical players to buy their new books?

and I explained what it is... I have even REEXPLAINED IT

so I can if backwards compatable bring a 2014phb and play in a 2024 book without updating unless the game has house rules...
as I said, your understanding of what compatibility is differs from mine. No amount of discussion will change that, so I am out.

hey look at that... not compatible unless you (wait let me quote you since you now agree it is needed
I am not agreeing it is needed, I am saying you are free to houserule

If you pull out far enough all TTRPGs can be hacked together with house rules

To me to be compatible I don't need to hack the system with a houserule
I agree with that

you said it yourself... you need to house rule to adjust the two to fit.
No, I said you can stick to the 2024 rules and have a 2014 char play in that game, or you can houserule a mix, if you prefer the latter.

I’m not seeing much work towards solving the t3 and t4 problems so many have. Some of the adventuring rule changes may end up ‘worse’ for many players. Etc.
would be great if it did, not sure how they can with their compatibility mantra. Most games do not go past level 12 or 13 anyway, so not the biggest of issues to solve, but certainly nice to have.

A mix of both, I am not sure why you think the interests of these two groups are diametrically opposed.

What do those old fans need?
New books?
No, as you can read here and elsewhere:
they say OneD&D is not enough to warrant buying new books...
so why catering to them?

You tell everyone how LevelUp does everything better. How can 2014 D&D compete with that?

Perhaps the fact that there are so many players of the current game indicates a general contentment with it, which would work against replacing their existing books. What do we know about people who might play in the future but aren't? Pretty much nothing.

Not everyone agrees with me, and that's ok? Are you seriously suggesting that WotC doesn't care if their current enormous fan base doesn't buy the new books, because some massive group of theoretical gamers might?

Yes. I do. People who have all the books won't buy books.
I think they are trying to make it as compatoble as possible. But not advancing the game is more hurtful in the long run.

Infinite growth is not possible.

I sure hope Hasbro isn't looking at Covid Years growth, and banking on the same in the new edition.

There is no vast untapped market.
