Does anyone here play "Chainmail"?

An example of why I think the Chainmail minis are too expensive is that the Chainmail gnoll archer was $5.99 for one figure, but Reaper offers 2 Gnoll Marauders in one package for the same price. Even though both companies figures were very cool, I'd still much rather have 2 figs than one for the same price. Seems like you could just use other figs for Chainmail battles (not league play but with your friends) and convert them easily. Like I could just say my two Reaper gnolls were Gnoll archers and use the Gnoll Archer Chainmail stats. Saves money! :D

I wasn't really intrested in Chainmail, but some of you have gotten my intrest up. Could you list a few of the rules or the basics of the game. I am a Warhammer 40k player, but not Fantasy and might have to go out and pick it up if you can sell me.

Try the Chainmail Demo out.

The game is all in the command points and strategy. The basic deal is you have certain figures that are 'commanders' and they are the ones actually calling the battle. When a model isn't under command, it can only do certain things. So you have to plan your movements and actions fairly dynamically. If you run out of command points (or send your units out of command- that is within 6" (hearing distance) or 24" (sight) they become less effective.

So you have sort of a true squad level fight going on where communication and the fog of war become really important.

You *could* use Reaper miniatures to play Chainmail (just not in league play- I think most people at Enworld can stat up a D&D monster comfortably and Chainmail models aren't that different- not only that- but a blank stat card is included with the Chainmail rules just for photocopying and this purpose).

But the Chainmail models are just.. I dunno.. nicer! The gnolls are friggin huge, too. And that Bugbear trooper! Raah!

I'm totally stoked about the minis coming up in the next couple of months. Check out WotC's site. These guys look awesome!

I hear what you're saying DungeonMaster. I set out to only buy Drazen's Horde, but have been fighting hard not buy others (I succumbed to Thalos- just to be different. No one I play with uses them). Luckily, the prices on these guys aren't anything like Warhammer, so I still can afford to buy a sandwich for lunch :)

I think all the factions look great (god, it was hard not to buy the gnolls!). The elves just don't do it for me though -- its time for my hobgoblin to find his receipe for elf pudding :D
