Does Awesome Blow do damage?

Hmm, is there anything in the RAW that contradicts that view, either explicitly or by implication? I can't recall seeing anything, but I'd love a solid answer on that one!

My only thought is that the rules say something like: When you move through, when you cast a spell....

Which kinda vaguely implies it has to be your decision.

Bull Rush explicedly mentions creating AoO's for unintended movement, a possible specific exception to the general rule.

C'mon, give the PC a break! The awesome blow is good enough as it is. Adding AoO's on top of that is just a cheesy rules technicality.
The issue at hand is not about whether PCs should be given a break, the issue is should
Falling
Telekinesis: Violent thrust
Awesome blow: Knocked flying
Wind effect: Blown away

Cause AoO’s to be drawn on the victim. That decision should be made LONG before the situation come up and should never change based on who will be killed because of that decision.

That is pretty much my opinion as well.

I’m none to keen on calling any of the 4 situations I listed up there ‘movement’.

AoOs from involuntary movement opens a very large can of worms when you introduce dynamic battlefields.
It been subject to some discussion:
Involuntary movement from bullrush causes AoO's, but there are others (Gust of Wind or Telekinesis-Violent Thrust) that don't say, or even specify that they don't provoke (improved grab, Knockback feat from Races of Stone)

I've noticed a precedence for involuntary movement (like falling, stalling, etc.) provoking AoO's. This was the ruling from the Sage in a recent Dragon magazine (however, the last few editions were never added to the FAQ). Also, you can provoke AoO's from involuntary movement if your mount panics (mentioned here).

While I'm not completely sure I like that, the alternative is allowing players to use involuntary movement producing effects to say, get themselves out of (or into) a threatened area without provoking.

By strict interpretation it seems that all movements would provoke AoO's as normal (as stated in the global AoO rule), unless they specifically say they don't.

But either interpretation seems valid to me. And I agree with you statement: this would be a hassle in a dynamic battlefield that moved on it's own.

Frankly, I think its needed to make it worthwhile. I've been disappointed every time I've used awesome blow.

It gives you a penalty on an attack for the "chance" to do a knockback, and then if you get the AOO it gives you a "chance" for another hit. What it amounts to is a lot of possibility but rarely does it come out well.

I just ran a purple worm and I tried awesome blow. Got the first damage, didn't get any knockback, and I gave up the hit with the poison stinger which is a LOT nastier!!

Same here. But for some reason, my players always complain when I use Awesome Blow on them.

Sometime you give, and you give...
