Does bull's Str stack with Belt of Str?

Items that buff spellcasting scores grant bonus spell slots if worn for the entire day, in my games.

The nimblefingrered rogue steals your Periapt of Wisdom while drinking to much alcohol in a bar. What happens to the bonus spells?
Much later that same day -more or less sober- you´re able to track down that nasty little bugger and retrieve the Periapt.
Are the bonus spells still there, or what happens?
I guess most of the dm:s would say that you loose the bonus spells and you have to wear the Periapt for a full day or somesuch to "kick in" again.
Somehow it doesn´t feel right, but probably it´s just me.

Nothing. You already have them. You only check to see how many you qualify to memorize once, when memorizing. After that losing the item does not kill already memorized spells.

That's exactly what I would do. You lose the bonus spells the moment the caster ability is lowered, and you can only regain them when you next pray for spells. I wouldn't require 24h, though, since you already are attuned to the item.

i guess i just assumed that gaunlets of ogre power and girdles of giant strength had a synergy/stacking effect like they did in 2nd ed...

No, the only benefit together now is the ability to use a hammer of thunderbolts.

In 2nd edition those two items only stacked when using the hammer of thunderbolts. They did not stack any other time. It was a property of the hammer, not the girdle or gauntlets.

Damn, i was afraid so. But doesn't this render the spells useless at higher levels whne everyone if wearing some neat gear??

Yes. But not *everyone* will wear said gear. However, yes, it will become less useful at levels where people who would want +Ability will have items of +4 or +6 to that ability.

and if you just make better spells... then why should the people even Wear any of that neat gear.. when the spells are alot more powerful...
ex new spell: Ledendary strenght: +15 strenght last for 8 hours etc..
thats the time of an adventure... wizard buffs everyone in the morning.. and they are all good and ready to go.. ??

Better spells would make the gear pointless, true. Unless, of course, you're not getting that spell every morning. Even if I was in a party with someone who could cast the spell every morning I'd get at least a +4 item as insurance.

On the other hand, that "legendary strength" spell sounds epic level to me, personally.

ALthough, I will say that IMC's "gauntlet's of ogre strength" grant an inherent bonus to strength... and are much more expensive than you'd expect from an item that only gives +2 to strength (28,000 gp).

On a related matter:
Olw´s Wisdom grants a enhanchement bonus to Wisdom, and so do Periapt of Wisdom.
Olw´s Wisdom doesn´t grant any bonus spells. What about Periapt of Wisdom? Does it grant bonus spells?
If it does, why?

It does, because it doesn't specifically say that it doesn't (unlike the spell).

IMC? You'd still have them even when the Periapt was stolen. If you didn't catch the thief until day 2 you wouldn't have them that day, however. But on Day 3, after sleeping with you precious, you'd get them back.

I can see a more strict ruling stating that you still have them but can't access them until you get the periapht back. But just losing them altogether doesn't really make sense to me.

They still* stack if you are using the hammer of thunderbolts, IIRC, which is all they ever did.

(* or at least, they did in 3.0. I can't remember which book the hammer was in)
