That's an interesting one to me with 2024 rules. In 2014 where the damage was dealt at the start of their turn it was easy.

But now. What if there 2 spirit guardians. 1 level 3 slot and 1 level 4 slot. Let's say there's no overlap and space between their areas. Shouldn't an enemy moving into both spirit guardians take damage from both?

Then what if they are partially overlapping? How does that work? Especially if you move into the level 3 one first, then the overlapping portion, then the level 4 only portion, then out. What happens there?

And then since the clerics moving causes spirit guardians to do damage, how does that work if say an enemy is in the level 3 one but not in the level 4 and the level 4 moves over him?

They dont stack in BG3.

Would have to see a rule on 5.5 preventing both not working. Emanations maybe?

I couldn’t find an emanation rule that said that. I think it’s just the normal stacking spell effects from the same spell rule. Though it’s not clear that should apply to separate instances of spirit guardians doing damage at separate times.

So on the one hand 5e D&D is pretty explicit when things like this don't stack. On the other hand it is consistent enough in not letting things like this stack that having it stack feels out of keeping with the design philosophy, so this feels like an oversight and generally a counterintuitive result. On the third hand this is not an obscure, gonzo multiclass build; Druid or Cleric taking a one level dip in the other is surely something anticipated by any designers who put the time in to think through stacking feature issus. On the fourth hand 2024 D&D seems to me to have been an oddly rushed product in its final form.

Rules as Written: They stack
Rules as Intended: They probably don't stack
Rules at My Table: They don't stack, unless we as a table just want that character to be the exposition character, which can be good in some campaigns.
Rules if this had been an issue in 2014 D&D: Jeremy Crawford probably would have tweeted that they stack, but you never know.

Yup.

I dont think the thought about a cleric/druid MC.

Thing is though unlike any other spell caster Im not that worried about a dip or even things like 8/4 or 8/8 split with this combo. May not be ideal but its still good at least. All I want is those level 3 or 4 spells generally

Hmm I’d personally say no to be honest. Not that Arcana is OP or anything, but my philosophy has been that the same effect, regardless of source, doesn’t stack. Keeps things simpler and helps me discourage power gaming, which, while is not “badwrongfun”, is not my preference in character building.

To each their own, of course.

Edit: come to think of it, this is a non issue at my table when I DM as I don’t allow multiclassing in my campaigns. Totally fair if that dissuades people from playing with me; I don’t feel bad because it is very popular in the D&D community so they’ll find what they’re looking for elsewhere.
