Does Everyone See the Same Similar Threads? Do you use it?

Totally random question! And this might be a @darjr question.

At the bottom of every thread page I see a list of "Similar Threads" that shows five other threads. I have never really thought about it before, but now that I have, I can't stop thinking about it. So, in order of importance, I have the following questions about the list that is on every page that I usually don't pay attention to.

1. Does every person see the same list? Or it customized for each user?

2. What happens if you have someone ignored, and the list would contain a thread they started? Does it get a different thread, or do you not have five entries?

3. Finally, and this is for everyone- do you ever use the similar threads? I admit that I kinda ignored it, but now I can't unsee it.

I crit!
No idea about the first two. I’m much more low level than that.

The third I can say I have used it at least once. Not sure if much more.

I don't believe in the no-win scenario

I cant answer if its custom or not, but it does seem to be related to keywords in thread titles and sub genres leading em to believe its probably the same for everyone.
2. What happens if you have someone ignored, and the list would contain a thread they started? Does it get a different thread, or do you not have five entries?
I know some folks cant see threads by folks that ignored them, but I have always been able to see a thread title and OP even if the user has ignored me.
3. Finally, and this is for everyone- do you ever use the similar threads? I admit that I kinda ignored it, but now I can't unsee it.
I thought it was cool at first, but often its necro city on discussions that ran out of gas some time ago.

I have, maybe, clicked a link once or twice. Sometimes the similar threads are right on topic, others... not.

I use that feature fairly often. I'm a newer member here, so it's nice to see older threads from before my time. They're usually fun to read through. I don't often comment on them, because as @payn says, they're often long dead threads.

It seems like they're very quick to suggest threads by the same author. For instance, in the Pineapple Pizza thread, all of the suggestions are other novellas published by you.

So I just looked, and I can now say this-

1. I verified that you, me, and @payn all have the same list. So that would appear to answer the first question (we all see the same list).

2. WHAT HAVE I DONE WITH MY LIFE?????

Huh, how about that.

I never scroll past the reply box so I never see them.

Having the new banner ads appear at the bottom has added a level of aversion to glancing at the bottom of the screen, so there's that, too. (Grumble, grumble, banner adds, grumble grumble.)

If you become a community supporter, you won't see ads! And you might get a little joy, too. :)
