Does gaming slow down from Nov 15- Jan1?

We're all in our 30's and only manage to get one or two games in during December. But I'm using the time to write, to read stuff I've bought, to catch up with things on the board, and to playtest.

And I think I'm going to start a new campaign in January.

For the past 3 years we have gone on break for December in our gaming group. A couple people work retail full or part time so it just gets to busy and since Gaming is an all day affair on sunday We need that time to shop and such.

It also gets our juices flowing to play again, absence makes the heart grow fonder or hey I am jonesing to game now.

I as a GM need the break to to Realign everything and get into the groove again. Kind of take a breath after weekly games that last 8 hours or so. I need a break for planning and thinking of bastardly things to do.

Both the groups I'm involved in play at pubs where we don't pay to use the space, but at this time of year they often book out for (paying) office parties, so things do tend to grind to a halt a bit during December. I didn't play last night, for instance.

Also, London being the sort of place it is, a lot of people head off out of town over the holiday period to stay with their families in other parts of the country (or even other countries), and that can make it difficult organising one-offs over Xmas. I'll be going to Canterbury, for instance.

One of my games is new, so I don't know what it'll do over Xmas. It played as usual (Sunday night) thru Thanksgiving.

I run a game for my teenage son, and we got in a bonus Friday session after T-day. I'm hoping for at least one bonus session over Xmas vacation, plus a marathon session on New Years Eve. Last year I crashed at about 2 and the boys played on til sunrise. I used to do that as a kid, and it just warmed my heart to see them calculating XP as I drank my morning coffee...

PS

I'm going to have to go with the "holidays are hectic" crowd. Not so much for family things but in general this time of year many things go on between work, friends (some are still in college) and family things (my father and 2 sisters have birthdays in Nov/Dec). I've love to have more time for gaming but that doesn't usually come until the end of the month when students are on break (which means I am too) and things slow down just a tad. :)

And January has always been a great time to either continue something established or start something new. Everyone is rip-roaring-ready-to-go at that point.

Well, I'm playing tonight, and DMing on Sunday. That will be the last of the gaming until January. We're all just too busy.

Gaming Heats up in December

December is the traditional time for HaggettCon!
A good friend makes the long journey out from New York to Illinois and we run a mini Con in between XMAS and New Years.

My wife and kids go down and visit her folks and it works out really well. Gamers all around the area schedule games every night during this period. It's a great way to have a reunion.

Here's this year's HaggettCon schedule. Hopefully Wulf and the rest of his Chicago crew can make it down for a couple of events this year.

HaggettCon IV

My down time for gaming is in the Fall, because of work responsibilities.

Holidays 'round these parts are game game game. Everyone is off work and needing a good round of orc bashing to compensate for the hectic holidays. Over thanksgiving break I had two games, and hope to have three over christmas break.

We live in the country - the place all those people come back to! We have one guy in the Navy, and he can only play once or twice a year at most. Christmas is always the time that he can come.

Same here. My group recently went from 6 to 3 to NONE, at least until the holidays are done.

Simply put, when holidays come, the time spent gaming is temporarily spent with family, holidays shopping, or in the case of serveral of my group, SELLING kicks into overdrive.

Generally speaking, I've noticed that my games slow down because a couple of our players are in college and they go home for the holidays. Plus, Thanksgiving, Chanukah, Christmas, and other holidays crop up, so there generally isn't the time to play.
