Another not so simple question: In D&D does the gaining of treasure and magical items mean having fun? Poll soon to be there.

Yes. It used to be more fun when dragons had 37,564 gp, 191,553 sp, 45,709 ep, eight plus one longswords and a giant diamond the size of a minotaur's liver.

It depends on what you are looking for in a game. I am a roleplayer, I like roleplaying, and gaining treasure isn't a huge deal to me. One of my groups of players though are complete hack n' slashers, and they love treasure more than anything.

Yes, it depends what you are looking for in a game. Which is why I'm asking you. Is this what you look for in a game to have fun? :D

As a player, I would find it unrealuistic and boring after w ahile if, after every defeated monster, their bodies disappeared and turned into a pile of coins like they did in Diablo, but quite often I think it would be inappropriate if at least the mnore intelligent foes didn't have SOMETHING shiny stowed away in it's lair or some gold or silver in its beltpouch. If there is treasure, it shouldn't be a matter of "Okay, you killed the monster, and you find this, this, and this"; there should be an active search made for the good stuff.

Finding treasure/loot is nice... but not necessary for me - and I tend to like customized treasures: Finding a named item with history and quirks is worth far more than finding a bit of treasure...

Treasure (including "give away" XP) is at the bottom of the list for things I need from a game in order to have fun.
