Does Hackmaster have level limits like AD&D?

Actually, I have to thank you for sharing that. I was slightly worried that I was doing something wrong (i.e. going too aggressively) because my players keep dying in encounters of no particular importance.

I'd be worried about your players dying. ;)

It's D&D. In D&D, PCs die. That's part of what makes it interesting; without the possibility of failure, there isn't a meaningful challenge. Because D&D is often about combat, failing in combat tends to involve PCs dying.

I'm very good about providing resurrection opportunities to my players, although it does cost them gold and time. (Assuming that it wasn't a TPK, which has happened twice.)

Sure, I'll fudge the dice constantly so that my mistakes (Bodaks are that tough?) don't just destroy the game, but as long as everyone is having fun...

Cheers!

I was thinking of starting up a Hackmaster game but was just wondering whether they tenaciously stuck to level limits like AD&D.

If so, do they explain why they're in place? (Besides "game balance".)

Thanks.

Oh, and the limits are very generous. Like 2e, most campaigns won't last that long.

Cheers!

Er, haha, yes. Characters. Though my players put on dramatics and claim that small pieces of them die every time ;)
