Does magic armor rust?

I don't see this in the DMG. If a player brings magical metal armor underwater for long periods of time, will it rust?

Well, according to just the SRDs, no metal armor would get rusty from being wet. Rust only comes from magical sources.

Each magical +1 on a shield increases its hit point and hardness, so I think it would be reasonable to assume magical armor is more resistant to water than normal armor.

Well then I have a bone to pick with the SRD. Cause I have a slew of steak knives in my kitchen that keep rusting on me....and my dishwasher isn't magical at all. Never buy steak knives from Target....stainless steel? From what, food only?!? :p

Riiight. A mysterious box that cleans dishes without a scullery maid? Not magical? You should recalibrate your Detect Magic my friend...

This seems to be one of those things that WotC left out becauses it is a "boring realism" that many people would not bother to use, similar to weapons and armour not getting damaged, nicked etc without being specifically targeted (or a 1 on a save).

Actually, Wotc stated in the core books that characters were assumed to be doing routine maintenance on their property to prevent things from rusting.

WotC has obviously never raised teenage boys...

Hhhmmm, then I failed my read skill :heh:

Then it comes on a par with the "training" before levelling up (but still fits the "boring realism") that is usually glossed over.

Well I only ask because the players will be doing an underwater adventure in the El. Plane of Water and I can't think of any reason a guy in full plate won't wear his armor underwater. Yet, no aquatic creatures wear full plate armor; Stormwrack mentions that metal armor doesn't fare well underwater but it doesn't describe how it fairs.

There's no bouyancy or water pressure in the El. Plane of Water....so why wouldn't a ton of aquatic fighters wear full plate armor instead of coral armor? I can't find any reason for this. I'd like to get the players to adapt to their surroundings by wearing underwater gear, but why would they need to do that? My only thought was because of rust.

Yeah, I lump in caring for your weapons and such as part of the non optional training characters are expected to do to prevent XP loss 3.0 PHB p.146.

Break the machine, cean the machine" sort of deal.
