Does Mirror Image hinder teh Hide skill in any way ?

:D

I must say that I have problems seeing my character (a rogue/diviner) hide in a alley with a Mirror Image spell going.

There are a small box to hide behind, but can 5 images fit behind the box ?`

:D

Thoughts ?

All of the images are constantly moving and shifting spaces... and staying within 5ft. of each other, or you, not both... So, the short answer is NOPE!

Officially, no -- just like officially, the Fly spell gives you no bonus to Move Silently, even though you're gliding instead of walking around.

I would expect your DM to rule that it hurts your Hide bonus, though, if he thinks of it. I know I would. I don't assume that someone who is Hiding is taking up the ENTIRE 5' by 5' square :).

So yes, if you're hiding behind a small box, and you're mirror imaged, you should get stung. That's just common sense.

I would allow all the images to move into the same 5ft square as you as the spell does say they can pass through each other and you, so if we're going to allow mirror images to be controlled by the caster to the point they can flank, then I guess one could pull all of the images into the same square as you while you're hiding :)

You know we don't do that!

It's an interesting question. There are two ways you can handle it: either you make the realistic approach and say you can't hide with all those mirror images around you, or you make it easy for yourself and the rest and just assume they mime your actions and hide themselves - after all, if you hid and they don't, it'll be quite easy to determine who the right one is: the one we can't actually see but who must be around there.

You can also go for balance: mirror images give you no advantages except those listed (miss chance, but no flanking or such nonsense), so you don't get any disadvantages except those listed. This way you don't have to worry about minute details and can concentrate on the important things!

No, it does not affect hide.

My opinion is that all of the images in a mirror image spell do exactly what you do, but you can arrange them in any pattern you like as long as every mirror image is withing 5' of you or another mirror image, and that you can change the arrangement as you like.

To hide, just move all of the mirror images onto yourself and hide normally with no penalty.

I'ld probably rule a hide check for each image and one for the caster. After all there are more chances of an enemy spotting one. But that is just me.

I think for the same reasons that mirror images do not actually flank, or aid another, etc., they do not hinder your hiding or move silently abilities either. They cannot help you perform an action, and they can't hinder you in performing an action. In my mind, they do exactly what you do. You hide, and they hide as well. Whether that be that they all blend into shadows or pull closer to the caster, they hide all the same. If you fly, they fly as well. If you go invisible, they go invisible. If you polymorph, they polymorph.

Etcetera, etcetera, so on and so forth......

Mirror image and invisibilty

All right, since this seems to be the month for silly mirror image questions (not that this thread is full of them but I think you know what I mean <flank>), how do you run this combo?

Say I cast mirror image and then invisibility... Say you attack me (without a way to see invisible creatures). Say you score a hit. Do you have the miss chance from my 100% concealment, do you roll for an image, both, what?? Are the images invisible? If not, what if I cast invis first and then mirror image?

I know what my answers are, just curious as to the rest of you!

I'd say that the mirror images also go invisible when you go invisible.
