Does the Pyro feat apply to Fireballs? How about Fire Seeds?

...this feat gives +1 fire damage *per die* of basic fire damage when you ignite / set on fire something or someone by any means. Alchemist's Fire is one given example.
Now, the "Acorn Grendades" created by Fire Seeds work like a more powerful Alchemist's Fire version (up to 20d8 per acorn!) - so Pyro should apply IMHO. But how about Fireball or other igniting "fire" spells?

Pyro seems to me to be a pointless, idiotic feat for munchkins. I hate it. It will never appear in a game I run. It is a waste of the paper it is written upon.

But, that's just me :) Feel free to include at your own peril

I always considered it to work only on mundane fires like torches or Alchemists fires (After all it's in the Bards And Rogues Classbook, which dont get Firecombat spells at all, or do they?).

By the way: Fireball doesn't ignite fire, by its's spell descritption. It explodes and that's it, normally theres no chance that something ignites(although the DM might want to make difffrences if it comes to lightly inflamable substances).

from the SRD

Fireball

Evocation [Fire]
Level: Sor/Wiz 3
Components: V, S, M
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: Long (400 ft. + 40 ft./level)
Area: 20-ft.-radius spread
Duration: Instantaneous
Saving Throw: Reflex half
Spell Resistance: Yes

A fireball spell is a burst of flame that detonates with a low roar and deals 1d6 points of fire damage per caster level (maximum 10d6) to all creatures within the area. Unattended objects also take this damage. The explosion creates almost no pressure.

The character points a finger and determine the range (distance and height) at which the fireball is to burst. A glowing, pea-sized bead streaks from the pointing digit and, unless it impacts upon a material body or solid barrier prior to attaining the prescribed range, blossoms into the fireball at that point (an early impact results in an early detonation). If the character attempts to send the bead through a narrow passage, such as through an arrow slit, the character must "hit" the opening with a ranged touch attack, or else the bead strikes the barrier and detonates prematurely.

The fireball sets fire to combustibles and damages objects in the area. It can melt metals with a low melting point, such as lead, gold, copper, silver, or bronze. If the damage caused to an interposing barrier shatters or breaks through it, the fireball may continue beyond the barrier if the area permits; otherwise it stops at the barrier just as any other spell effect does.

That's nice cardinal but sorry it doesn't apply. If that line includded DC save 15 to avoid bursting into flame and take fire damage the next round it would. All that line does is say, yes it is fire, look note that fire descriptor in the spell, fire burns things, yeah, burn, burn.

The pyro feat provides a very small benefit to a very specific circumstance, those spells, or items that say you catch on fire if you don't make a save at X. I tdoes not apply to those things that incidentally catch things on fire, because yes it was a fire based attack.

i would say Pyro would apply to Combust from Magic of Faerun since it specifically spells out that the target must make a reflex save or start on fire. if there are any other spells like that i would apply the Pyro bonus. it wouldnt, for example, apply to Fireball.

Pyro is good for people who want to burn down houses, throw alchemist fire bombs, and cast Combust.

mmm... fire...

and for the record, Pyro is my FAVORITE feat out of S&S! woot!

The fireball sets fire to combustibles and damages objects in the area.

I see you point. If the caster of the fireball set anything on fire with it, any damage the 'combustibles' take from burning on subsequent rounds will certainly be increased by +1/die.
