To me, what he does is merely one facet of who the character is - he's cool if this is all more than just a set of abilities with neat special effects that'd look good on a movie screen. What does he *think* about his totemic powers? That's what'll help determine his behavior - which is where real cool comes from
Well it seems like his story will be more of a 'What's my place in the world?' story. And how people react to his odd, and constantly shifting apperance will no doubt play into that a great deal. Also in his case it's not really totemic powers so much as who he is. His powers are as much a part of him as his hands, it's what he was constructed to do. It's what he chooses to do with them that will drive his story.
