Does this game look a bit familiar to anyone else?

It looks strikingly similar to the D&D Tower of Doom and Shadow Over Mystara coin-ops, but different enough not to raise legal issues. The D&D games were quite similar to the fantasy beat'em-ups that came before them, like Knights of the Round and the Golden Axe series.

And hey, at least it's cloning a great game. I can't exactly say as much for all the Diablo II clones out there. Diablo II was a solid 'B' title, in my opinion, not an 'A'. The D&D coin-ops were 'B' titles, as well.... though they weren't soiled by outdated graphics, broken skill trees, constant patching which screwed over high-level players by horridly nerfing certain skills, and to top it all off, a crappy server (battle.net was WEAK).

*cough* Yes, Diablo II left me a little bitter...

Two things really struck me:

The interface, including the circular spellcasting menu, is REALLY close to the interface in ToD and SOM.

and

In those scenes in the villages, I'd have to dig out the ROMS to check, but that background looks REALLY close to the background in some of the scenes in those games.

The backgrounds are real close from memory, yes. It also looks a lot like Capcom's similar beat 'em up staring the knights of Artharian legend (can't remmber the name)... almost like a bastard love child of the two to my eyes.

My pleasure.

I take every chance I get to mention The Classic Games. Even if it's totally random...

I'm sure there is a new GA in development for something (GBA or PS2), whether it's a port, remake or sequel I don't know.

Knights of the Round? It looked a lot like that but it only had 3 players. We played a lot of Knights of the Round 10 years ago (or so), it wasn't that good but it was the only video game at the Minit Mart next to where I was working.
