Because there's a wall in the way. Without the wall, he could've done that no problem.

Or, to put it a different way, why are you limiting their movement to the grid squares sides instead of using the diagonals as well?

If Im even following this correctly... which maybe I'm not. The bad guy is moving around a corner, and you cannot take diagnal moves around a corner, as you would be passing through the corner itself.
