There are some shops in large cities which carry magical items, but our campaigns do not provide for stores which offer anything/everything our hearts may desire. Generally, magical arms and armor can be found in weapon/armorsmith shops but not in great quantity or variety. Thus if our party finds a +1 Greatsword during our travels, but no one can effectively wield the item, we seek to barter it.

As for potions, scrolls, and the like, they're available through various merchants/magic dealers. Wands, staves and rods are harder to find, and generally don't come cheap. The major and wondrous magical items are almost never sold anywhere in our campaigns...ya gotta earn 'em the old fashioned way :).

I don't have ANY magic stores in my Greyhawk campaign. You can buy scrolls and potions from a local wizard or cleric but that's pretty much it. I don't like the idea of players being able to go to Magic Weapons are US and buying a replacement +5 Holy Vorpal Greatsword. Seems like it cheapens magic more, makes it almost like the Forgotten Realms...

Okay, I've got my FRCS right here at work with me. Give me a page reference, please, where it mentions any magic-r-us store anywhere in Faerun.

I don't know why people keep accusing FR of being some sort of high magic la-la land. Once again, THE LEVEL OF MAGIC IN FR IS NO HIGHER OR LOWER THAN THE LEVEL IMPLIED IN THE DMG. I've said this a hundred times, and I've even seen people like Sean Reynolds back me up on this. So please, a page reference if you will.

nope. in the campaign i play in magic items are very rare. only found as family heirlooms, or in dungeons/scary places. makes them a whole lot more important in the players eyes.
