Does your Dwarven warrior wield an axe?

And when I say "Dwarven warrior" I mean any Dwarf character that fights in the capacity of a warrior or "front-liner". For instance, I've been in a party where our best front-liner (or Tank) was an axe-wielding Dwarf who happened to be a Cleric. I'd just like an indication of how deep the stereotype flows.

Nope, last dwarf fighter I played used a Hammer

Throwing hammers, warhammers, mauls. Almost always something heavy and hammerlike. I guess I figure that it is a weapon that makes sense as a tool as well.

The only dwarven fighter-type(homebrewed cavalier core class) I've made was after 3.5 came out. So if I didn't use the Dwarven waraxe, he wouldn't a good example of the dwarven nobility.

Well, correction. My last dwarf character carried several axes and a warhammer. Yeah, slice and bash.

OK, is your Dwarven warrior's main weapon something other than an axe or a hammer?

Yep. In one mini-campaign I'm playing a dwarven Paladin whose special mount is a boar. He wields a dwarven waraxe.

Sometimes stereotypes are perpetuated because they're just plain cool. Dwarf + Axe... it just works. The view of one of the little buggers running at you with an axe bigger than your head... it's just plain cool.
