I voted yes, but I would consider a hammer for a dwarf character as well.

Generally, my dwarf characters most often carry axes.
Second, hammers
Last, swords and the sort.

Some carry both axes and hammers :)

Also, my dwarves carry crossbows.

Battleaxe (well, it was a Cleric of Clangeddin Silverbeard).

BTW, is there a "Dwarven Warhammer" which does 1D10 damage and could be wielded one-handed (like the Dwarven Waraxe)?

However, if he (somehow) misses 3 consecutive times, he bashes them with his head/helmet! :) This happened quite often at lower levels but rarely now that he is 7th...

My current (cohort) Dwarf Fighter is a Waraxe user, but I haven't actually voted on the poll, since my next one could very possibly do things differently ... I have no set rules about what weapon to give them.

the 3e dwarves that i've played so far have used dwarven waraxes, battleaxes, handaxes, throwing axes, warhammers, and halberds.

Of course he wields an axe. As a cleric/fighter of Clangeddin, I chose the War Domain as one of his domains. This gave him Weapon Focus (the War Domain special power) with the diety's weapon of choice. Clangeddin's weapon of chocie is, surprise, a battle axe.

Once you add in four levels of figther for Power Attack, Cleave, and Weapon Specialization, that battleaxe is looking pretty mean. Couple that with the Strength Domain special power, Divine Might, Divine Vengeance, and Bull's Strength and you've got a one-hit wonder.
