Does your group DM?

I have a group of five that wouldn't run a game under 3.x, but recently we switched to C&C and all ran at least one game before our last campaign ended(we're actually gearing up to start a new one this sunday). The funny thing is I have played with this group for years AD&D and D&D 3.5 and they never wanted to run a game until we switched. In the new campaign we will be switching off regularly. No no one's been banned.

No, not unless they eat all the snacks and never bring any:lol: . No seriously I believe roleplaying games can often be hard enough, for new people especially, to just grok the basics of playing. When they realize the commtiment and memorization necessary to run a game, I think for some it doesn't seem fun and becomes a chore. For others it is their thing. Basically different strokes for different folks.

Maybe, but there could be other reasons if this is happening. Continuity of game, They don't enjoy playing etc. Defintiely a depends on the person question.

Does DMing make one a better Player?

I think it does, my players usually rely on me to explain and keep track of most of the rules. But after people ran their C&C games they seemed to have a better understanding and comprehension of how things work when they went back to playing. It also made them realize the work involved in running games.

Does playing a PC make one a better DM?

I think so, after going so long without actually playing, it helped me to get better perspective on what is "fun" for my players. It also allowed me to show them(through use of my PC) that they weren't limited to whatever hooks I threw out there but could actually create and pursue personal goals for their PC' s in the campaign. I don't really know why they always seemed reluctant to do this?

We have 7 people in our group. Four of us regularly take turns DMing.
No one is banned from DMing but the other 3 just have never shown an interest in running a game.

As someone who likes to DM I don't think I am a powermonger and I don't think non-DMing players are moochers. DMing is normally a large time, money investment and not everyone wants to do that.

I do think that switching roles helps a person to become better in the other.

Of the--currently--four of us, judge duties primarily fall on two of us. Since the other guy usually runs his Saturday game, he can get a bit overwhelmed when he's running our Monday night sessions as well.

Of the other two: One has run games before, though not for our group. The other has mentioned thinking of running once or twice.

No one has been banned from judging.

Those general trends probably hold for all my prior groups as well as previous members of this group.

Players who don't take a turn as judge are not moochers. Where would a judge be without players?

Judges who never let anyone else judge... I don't think they exist. Even the most driven judges I've known will take the chance to play a PC in a heartbeat. The itch to judge may return soon, but they're always up for a break.

Judging does not necessarily make one a better player. Neither does playing necessarily make one a better judge. I'm tempted to say that it's aways better to see the world from someone else's perspective, but I'm not sure it always makes a significant impact in this case.

Most of my players are willing to DM. I DM most of the time and sometimes a few of my players DM. Nobody has been banned from DMing.

No.
Are DMs who never let others DM powermongers? :-)
No-Not reallly.
Does DMing make one a better Player?
Again, not really - although it may make players read more of the rules.
Does playing a PC make one a better DM?
I'll echo previous posters and say that while it may not make one a better DM, it does give me [as a the primary DM] a different perspective. I become a little more aware of how my player's see things.
