Doh... Player "oopsies"

This is more for my curiosity than anything...

To all you DMs...
If your guys forget to check corpses for loot, or accidently leave a chest unchecked filled with King Tut's riches, or whatever, do you hint to them "hey, don't forget..." or do you just let them go and it's their loss?

My guys forgot to check a double standard and a trip. standard mob (a few weeks ago) and I just got to thinking about it. I didn't say anything until after we were done playin that night, and yes, they felt stupid.

The thing is, I know at X level, they're supposed to generally have Y amount of wealth (be it by gold or eq), and I didn't know if missing the mobs and whatnot would throw things off or not. Just curious how other people handled it.

They... forgot... to LOOT?!

lol, in the games I'm in, the players verbally trip over each other trying to reach the bodies first. I always have this mental image of a cartoon where the dog and cat that are fighting both see a beautiful woman, and race each other to get there.

Anyway, as for the question... nah, unless the loot contains plot important bits, I wouldn't say anything.

If you think the PCs' low wealth is strongly detrimental to their ability to play the adventure you want them to, just give them a some more treasure in the next session.

Otherwise, don't sweat it.

I never remind the players of something. I have parties that dodn';t like to loot though or leave the treasure after they have donme thier job. Which is okay, becasue most of the time they just go and give the treasure away anyhow. Too many greedy parties out there, :D

While I might, if pressed, remind my players of an imminent lethal threat, I can't imagine reminding them about something as insignificant as treasure.

Heh... Yeah, that's what I thought as well ("Forgot... to... loot.... *scratches his head in utter confusion*)

But either way, nothing major was there (well, at least, nothing important was planned to be in there :p ) so it's not a big thing. Just delays 'Teh Mighty Boomstick' from being made until another battle :)

I wont remind my players to loot, but if it's something painfully obvious that the characters would definitely notice, like a treasure chest or the dead assassin's glowing black sword, I'd probaby remind them. If it's just standard looting, or something that they characters actually could overlook, I'd not remind them.

Emphasis mine. I don't understand this grouping of words.

Anway, i don't think it interferes with my understanding of your curiosity.

Both as a player and as a DM this has happened. Usually, the treasure is left forgotten, but if any of it is vital to the adventure(macguffins, artifacts, ways of defeating high damage reduction [in 3.0]) it turns up later instead.
