D&D 5E Don't Throw 5e Away Because of Hasbro

I have often wished there was a good way to learn what fans who aren't forum posters think about changes to the game. We're always saying that people here aren't representative. How do we know what people who are representative think of all the stuff we argue about here?
Judging by my own local gaming community, I have yet to see a physical 5.5 book. There are a few groups that are mid-campaign, and they're waiting to see what they're in the mood for when they're finished. Some groups don't feel it's necessary to "upgrade". And, finally, there are quite a few players who have no idea 5.5 exists.

Edit: I should also include that the nearest LGS is 50 miles away, and deep in the heart of our capital city.

My buddy bought 5.5 and let me look at it, and will likely run it for his other groups, but I've made it clear I prefer other forms of 5e and have no intention of buying 5.5 or using it as a base. No one else I game with has any interest in the subject (or even knowledge that they didn't get from me).

A couple members of my group have it and we will change when our current game ends. No reason to swap at level 11.

Because test drives are expensive. I'm fine with going with the documentation in this case.
YouTube will have full reviews where the entire book is shown. Monster math broken down, layout commented on and any surprises revealed within the first 2 weeks of lifted embargo... and guess what... it'll be free.

I thought you said you have to play with the books before you're allowed to make any judgments?

My enttire group have all bought 1 of the new PHB (though 2 opted to go digital only and one bought the special cover and a regular). Two of us that DM have bought the DMG (again with 1 buying an extra w/the special cover). That said we had wrapped up our previous games right before the holidays so we are doing a 2024 only mini-campaign to test the game out.

I think that's best if you're proclaiming truths abouut the book (though i didnt say anythinng about being "allowed")... but I believe enough people using it in actual play and documenting their experiences can provide enough info for many to base a decision on. The point being you'll be getting a holistic as opposed to piecemeal look at the book and how it functions for many people in play.

Edit: In the same way someone who does a readthrough of a module review and someone who does a playthrough review can come to totally different conclusions. One also, IMO, has a much more informed and all around better grasp of whether this product succeeds or doesn't at its primary goal.

Your group appears to be quite different from mine. Fortunately both of us can get what we want.
