Downtown Indianapolis Food [New one every day!]

Some people have suggested St. Elmo's steakhouse to me. It might not be downtown. Is it any good?

And I live in a town of less than 60,000, and even here there are places to get food 24 hours a day: IHOP, Jack in the Box, Whataburger, Denny's, Bill's Cafe, Jim's Restaurant. Any place that has factories or warehouses with three shifts has places to eat open 24 hours.
St. Elmo's is downtown, adjacent to Circle Center Mall (and thus, the Convention Center). Be prepared to rebudget your gaming purchases if you eat there though, because it is expensive. It makes The Outback look cheap by comparison (though Ruth's Chris Steakhouse and Shula's Steakhouse are even more expensive). It's the kind of place where movie stars and heads of state eat.

That being said, I hear the food is excellent.

He is neither joking nor exaggerating as to St. Elmo's clientele or prices. If you eat there, presume you will not be buying games.

I'm sorry I haven't posted in a while. I got really busy at work. In fact today, we just got to tour Argonne National Labs' Advanced Photon Source and watch a beamline in action.

Anyway, my next post is kind of a cheat, because I haven't actually been there. But I have been to the E. Washington location and I can vouch for the authentic Mexican food. Apparently, they've added a new location to Union Station. Which is kind of sad, actually, because any business located in that cursed place quickly goes under.

El Sol De Tala

El Sol De Tala offers authentic Mexican cuisine in a bright, lively atmosphere. It was voted one of the top restaurants for salsa, flan and guacamole by Indianapolis Monthly magazine in 2002 and 2003. Enjoy the magnificent fountain in the lobby and the wonderful story it tells. Located in Union Station at the Meridian Street entrance.

There is an awesome taco place south of the city in Greenwood. It just happens to be located next door to a gaming store. It is Roscoe's Tacos. The shredded beef [insert favorite Mexican-style food] is superb. A bit of a drive from Gen Con, though. It is located on Madison Ave. at the intersection with Smith Valley Rd. I can provide directions from GenCon, but unless you have some other reason to go to the far south-side of Indianapolis, I can't see anyone leaving GenCon for it (although I would, since I live on the far south-side).

Another good one that we ate at last year was Houlihans. There are a couple of them in Kansas City, and the food is most excellent. It is a tad on the pricy side, though, but after a long day, that iced tea there really hit the spot. They have a varied menu, with offerings such as pasta, and seafood, steak, and chicken.
Houlihans is on the pricy side? If that's true do not step foot near Ruth Chris. Ruth Chris is an awesome restaurant (with locations throughout the country) best known for its steaks where everything is a` la carte. It is just a block from the convention center though and if you can afford it, I highly recommend it. Expect to spend $50-70 a person though.

And my wife and I do remember the banana spring roll desert from P.F. Changs. Wish there was one near us.
