Dragon #293, Dastana and Chahar-aina Question Answered

Well, that settles that. When layering the armor the magical bonus of any shield is added to either the armor magical bonus, the Chahar-aina magical bonus or the dastana magical bonus, whichever is highest. But special advantages of the magic still apply, so if your armor, dastana and chahar-aina all have something else special like fortification, that all still stacks.

rats!

ah well, hey that still means you could get lots of weird bonus stuff ... all the resistances, SR, silent moves, ...

and you'd still get at least a +1 AC from the piece (normal rules) of add-on.

Combined with the bishop's mantle, spaulders, and tonlet from Bastion's Arms & Armor, you could get a total of +54 worth of armor qualities (and another +9 from your shield).

Assuming you used a chain shirt and large shield, both enchanted to +5, you'd have an armor bonus of +13 with an enhancement bonus of +10 (from armor and shield), for a total of +23 AC. Of course, you'd also have an armor check penalty of -11, a max dex bonus of +0, and an arcane spell failure chance of 85%. And you'd probably look pretty goofy, too.

J, way too much time on his hands.
