Dragon #306

Personally I could do without the comics. I liked the old Dragon Magazine page of single cell comics. These current ones with Nodwick, and the evil chick one generally on the back page are complete yawners and definately not worth the money I spend on the subscription.

Amen!

Every year at GenCon I stop at the Dragon booth and let them know how I feel about the April fool's issue as well.

If I wanted bad comics I would buy Mad magazine.

The comics were always one of the things keeping me buying Dragon for as long as I did. Wormey and Snarfquest were classics and Nodwick is briliant. I will agree that Phil and Dixie need a bump to get them out of thier rut.

I too like the comics. I read Nodwick online as well and Zogonia has a unique style. Dork Tower is also usually pretty funny. I'd rather have the comics then the fiction. Of course nothing beats KODT!

This is the best April issue I can remember. There are no "joke" articles; there are more comics than usual, yes, but each article is very useful. I'm glad to see that April is no longer a throw away issue.

Thaumaturge.

p.s. There is a full color poster inside with Incursion written on it. "Incursion" strike a cord with anyone? I'm drawing a blank.

Rob & Kyramus,

Can you check if it says anything about the 5-sided die competition? I think I may be among the winners but 306 won't be available here until some time next month.

Thank ye ;)
For those interested, here are the winners of the 5-sided dies (page 14):

Gabriel Anderson
Matthew Belcher
Caroline Byford
Graham Carey
David Degregorio
Greg Draudt
John Ensworth
Chris Jameson

Ugh.. I might actually pick up this issue, despite me belief that Dragon is sliding down the toilet into the realm of Pure Crap. But sometimes one or two articles are good. A shame, really, because right after 3E came out, they had a few really great issues. I wanna see the racial templates in this one, as I think I could use them in my current campaign world (just hope they're 3.5 compliant.. I mean, that's the thing now isn't it? If it's not 3.5 compliant, it's crap!), and the whole virtue/sin atricle sounds interesting... But hmm... getting a whole mag for just two articles? I was really trying ot put those days behind me when I bought a gaming product just for the use of one or two things in it..

I miss the old days of Dragonmirth, one cell comics that while spoofish, and puntastic were still a good deal of fun. For a long time I bought Dragon for the comics 1st and crunchy bits 2nd, especially with KoDT in it.

Zungonia or whatever it is does little for me, Nodwick is getting old unfortunately (though I like the comic), and Dork Tower/Phil & Dixie just aren't funny anymore.

The articles seem hit or miss these days, a few great ideas and combat rules mixed in with alot more junk. The adds seem to be getting as bad as they were 5 years ago when every other page tried to sell you some book club or another. The magic items section have been blah too.

Dunno, here's hoping the content returns to the 270ish style that really gave Dragon a fresh start in 3e.
