Dragon #306

Dunno, here's hoping the content returns to the 270ish style that really gave Dragon a fresh start in 3e.

Who ever thought you would read these words lamenting the time of the 'old school' D&D 3E?! :)

I haven't picked up an issue since 300 and am starting to regret it. I will probably go back to getting it at my LGS but not before I read it over a bit.

BTW none of the comics (at least up until issue 300) were as bad as the Bolt & Quiver crap they have in Dungeon (well Polyhedron really) - god that is the lamest 'comic' I have ever seen.

*shrug* Not much for Phil and Dixie, but I do like Nodwick and some of the other comics are amusing too.

Everyone will get what they want out of it. I see Dragon as pretty useful even if I don't use a lot out of it.

And Holy Bovine, if Bolt and Quiver is the lamest comic you have ever seen you need to read more comics!!! :p

I want more campaign specific stuff. and I don't mean Greyhawk and FR. Comics were overdone this time...especially since they were okay (though the frog/lich thing was humorous...the first time)

As for Prestige classes... don't we have enough already of something that is optional and to many DMs (in my experience) don't want them anyway.

it really is awful isn't it?

I like Dragon, but i'm getting a bit burned ut by it. I suspect that it's more to do with mag-lag - the feeling you get after you've been reading a magazine for a while. You know 'another april issue? another dragon themed aniversary issue?'. I don't think quality has dropped, i liked issue 300 (and those who complained about it didn't seem to complain about some of the same rules turning up in Savage Species), but i'm feeling a bit burned out by the magazine myself...

That's a good point. Also how many Pcr can be created? How many monster templates of basic themes?

"This month we see elemental dogs"

next year
"This month we see elemental beasts"

this year
"This month we see something extra special- elemental demons!"

yaaaawwwwn. Dragon editors take note-

I like the single PrC section, and those are some of my favorite PrCs on the whole. But the actual articles with one or more PrCs and feats tend to be mediocre to poor.

And no kidding HB, the old days of 3e indeed. Scary to think about when I was lamenting 1e during the start of 2 no less.

I wanna see the racial templates in this one, as I think I could use them in my current campaign world (just hope they're 3.5 compliant.. I mean, that's the thing now isn't it? If it's not 3.5 compliant, it's crap!),

Well, considering that the article was written (by me! :D) before 3.5 was announced, it would have been hard to play by those rules. That said, the templates are completely 3.5 compliant, so I guess I lucked out. :)

Hope you enjoy them!

Well my man, looks like, thanks to you, someone who normally would not buy Dragon anymore, will buy at least one issue. They should send you more money.;)

Well, I should be cautious to avoid potential backlash from false information. :D

As an example, based on what we've seen from Savage Species Wilderness Lore and Alchemy have changed to Survival and Craft (alchemy). These changes obviously weren't reflected in my article, and I'm sure they weren't changed in Dragon, since that would be confusing to people not analyzing all the clues about the new edition as closely as we all do. ;)

What I meant by fully compliant was that I'm fairly certain none of the revisions are so sweeping that the templates in the article will become useless. You may have to change a name or two, but otherwise they should be good to go!
