This is just speculation on my part,

But while the Eberron article does state that "psionics are considered an option" the article goes on to say that the Eberron Campaign Setting provides an integrated background for psionic characters and monsters. It mentions that psions, psychic warriors, egoists, soulknives, nomads, and kineticists and most common in two of Eberron's lands, and that next month's Dragon will have a preview of a new race that manifests psionis power as a racial ability.

This to me sounds a little too coincidental. I wonder if Mr. Baker's Eberron setting prompted WOTC to do the Psionic 3.5 book because psionics are prevelant in his campaign setting? Not that it really matters, just struck me as odd. I doubt that WOTC told Mr. Baker that he had to include psionics in his setting. I wonder if Eberron is "lucking out" by having the psionic 3.5 book come out, or if the psionic 3.5 book is "lucking out" by having Eberron get the big marketing push?

just my $.02

Kai,

Probably because you like magic more than intrigue. ;)

Hairy,

Actually that's not intentional merely just the way Keith designed his world. I think he felt he wanted some options for his players to use psionics IF they wanted to. I also don't think one has anything to do with the other.

The Revised Psionics book is likely to have always come out, regardless of Eberron. Psionics needed an overhaul badly, and 3.5E was the perfect opportunity.

Part of the goal of Eberron is to allow anything published for Core D&D to be used in it. One way it does this by having different areas of the world focusing on different things - thus there's likely to be a psionic area (kingdom) in the world. Because travel from one area to another in Eberron can be very easy if the DM decides, Psionics can therefore be easily integrated into the whole.

Cheers!

I agree with Merric on his points and I would like to add there is a reason many people flocked to Malhavoc Banner. The new psionic stuff in those adventures/sourcebooks were a boon to a lot of people.

Actually its the nature boy exotic stuff that has me interested. The Central America themed Fey, Dragons, etc., the urban druid, and the new races.

My wild elf barbarian/ranger has little use for magic or intrigue... :)

Could this imply that egoists, nomads and kineticists are different classes and not just specialization of the psion?

Kineticist never was a specialization of psion, though. That one's a PrC from the Mind's Eye, derived from the Pyrokineticist PrC in the original PsiHB.
The Kineticist and the Archpsion are my number one bets on what from the Mind's Eye made its way to the expanded book. Next up are the feats dealing with astral constructs.
