Dragon #327, It'a all Erik's fault

Comments with an eye toward Erik's "Why don't you..." thread -- i.e. constructive criticism/feedback. I'm not a subscriber, so I haven't seen any of the articles.

Tomb Raiders: Descriptions and examples of real world tombs to raid.

Sounds very cool. Great idea.

The Spoils of War: How to divide your treasure without resorting to one potato, two potato.

Almost every group I've been involved in has wrestled with this. It's a great idea for an article. Even as an experienced player, I wouldn't mind some ideas. Implementation is the key, though. Three ideas with pedantic tone would not be value added.

Silverfish: A Forgotten Realms short story.

Ugh, fiction. Ugh, Realms. While I can understand support for the Realms, even if I would never use it, I consider fiction

With Friends Like These: Anti-heroes and exhalted heroes

Sounds like a great article.

Ecology of the Grimlock: I can't use this monster without thinking of that prequil to MST3K's Cave Dwellers.

Ecologies are good. Grimlock isn't high on my usage list, but they are an interesting critter.

Wining Races: Diaboli from the D&D: Master Boxed Set

Don't remember these, but new races could be cool.

Modern Magic: Magical D&D versions of modern everyday items

Not a bad idea for a one-off article. I'd hate to see it be a regular feature.

Silicon Sorcery: Champions of Norrath: A bunch of feats for Drow (Why just for Drow I really can't figure)

Three things wrong with this article. 1) It pulls on a computer game for source material. 2) That game is the ever-annoying EverQuest. 3) It is only really applicable to drow, which have had their day.

If you're going to put something computer related into the magazine, do reviews, not conversions. But even those wouldn't be particularly useful as a regular feature.

Novel Approach: Frankenstein and how to apply it to your constructs.

Very cool. A way to evoke the feel of a novel. This is a great aid to those of use trying to put more of a storytelling feel into our games.

Miniatures: Warband Building

Meh. Miniatures hold no interest to me -- I haven't bought one since the 1980s. Still, I wouldn't begrudge the space if the fiction and CRPG conversions weren't there. At least I can see the draw of miniatures and could imagine doing some wargaming if my group was a bit different.

I thought, and still think, that this article has something to do with all those busty, scantily clad girls we see in pics. The fact that it's all about Drow does nothing to alleviate my suspicions!

I know it's spelt Silicone, but... I can't help my brain!

I complain in Eric Mona's thread about how everyone else get's their magazine before we subscribers do and what happens? I get mine first!

I don't know how you did it Eric, but please keep doing it.
I walked many distance far beyond my or anybody's mailboxes or post office to get to my FLGS to buy your magazine at full price and this is the gratitude we get? Add yet another convenience for subscribers?

Aw, crap!

Are you serious, Reg?

Of course we want subscribers getting the copies a little earlier than the shops. It's a traditional benefit of subscribing, and one we've had a lot of damn trouble getting right over the last few years.

What's the saying about how you can't win?

Yes, all my subscriptions arrive a few days to a week before they get into stores, one magazine usually gets to me ten days before hand. the only magazines i get late ar Dungeon and the Army Times.

Forgive this old fool for ranting this close to the holiday season.

Let's agree that I can never catch a break when it comes to the official D&D (and d20) magazines.
