Dragon #356

What does the midnight pupils trait do?

It gives you 60' darkvision (or 60 more feet, if you already have it), but makes you only see in darkvision, so you see the world in black and white, and take a -2 penalty to Search and Spot checks made in areas where the illumination is brighter than shadowy.

What about Wormy? ;)
I'm not sure he was technically D&D. Wasn't their game "Grotto's & Goblins" ("Shut up Fred, you're still unconscious")? Still, if Growf! could make it, Wormy should have.

Getting the rights to reproduce an image might have been an issue, though.

as easy as hailing a cabbie

though it'll still be hard...
According to Jolly R. Blackburn, www.kenzerco.com, Vice President of KenzerCo (Knights of the Dinner Table Magazine Aces and Eights: The Shattered Frontiers), in 2005, "I did have a phone conversation with David Trampier about a Wormy compilation a few summers ago. He politely asked me not to call him again and to lose his number. Apparently a LOT of people tracked him down through the same article [about his taxi driving career] and he was fed up with all the phone calls. Seemed like a nice guy. He just wants nothing to do with the strip or the gaming industry."

Since Mike gave us the go-ahead to post the cut Gruaghlothor sidebar over on Paizo's boards, I figured I'd post them here as well.

Gruaghlothor is the supreme ruler of the ferrous dragons. His power was once equal to that of Bahamut and Tiamat, before they achieved godhood. According to ferrous dragon legends, Gruaghlothor was the first of the ferrous dragons, and was responsible for creating the hierarchy that all ferrous dragons strictly follow. Several powerful red dragons banded together and destroyed Gruaghlothor, but he swore a dying curse to return for vengeance and not rest until all red dragons are destroyed. As a result of this curse, Gruaghlothor was indeed reborn, but not as the same creature. Should the current Gruaghlothor perish, the great wyrm iron dragons meet to choose one from among their ranks to become the new Gruaghlothor. Through a secret ritual that lasts exactly one year, the new Gruaghlothor emerges to lead the ferrous dragons and plot the extermination of red dragons.

Gruaghlothor possesses a constant telepathic link with all ferrous dragons, and thus even the most evil of the species will not defy his will, for he will know instantly.

You can find more on Gruaghlothor (including his 1E statistics) in Dragon #170.

Thanks again Alzrius! :D

Now for my opinions:

SCALE MAIL
Erik, pay attention to those modron lovers! :p My letter made it in #354 asking about them and now the cries from others are coming. :D Hierarch modrons must make an appearance before Dragon fully dies out.

TOP TEN MOST WANTED DRAGONS IN D&D
Interesting article, I recognize Cyan from DL I believe? Chronepsis is on there eh? Never knew he was really so popular.

FERROUS DRAGONS
BOZ and Shade, another smile brought to my face to see another one of your great creature articles making it into Dragon. I am looking forward to this one. You guys make my games filled with so much variety and inspirations thanks to these conversions. Keep up the work and hope to continue seeing your work in WotC's Digital Initiative. They can't refuse you guys! :D

ECOLOGY OF THE LINNORM
Dragon once again has proven themselves to be just uber! I was hoping for them to not only do this ecology, but to do it with a new/update linnorm. Can't wait to read it and make use of the sea linnorm. Here's to hoping WotC's DI converts more linnorms.

VOLO'S GUIDE
Not what I expected, but should be interesting.

CLASS ACTS
Hmm, I really don't see much use of any of the Class Acts articles this time. Total bummer on this one. I really don't care much for the guides, the Aztec Mythos one is somewhat ok. I can tweak it to work in Maztica for my FR games. The Occult Mutations seem bland to me, I never cared much for traits from UA. The Mercenary one is rather meh to me. A disappointing Class Acts for me. I was hoping to see some new feats in Class Acts for once, it's sure been awhile. Guess I'll have to wait till next month.

There will be feats in #358. Now I don't remember #357, though. :\

*harried*

Top 10 Most Wanted Dragons in D&D, by Tim Hitchcock and Nicolas Logue - The top ten most infamous dragons of D&D are given here. Each has a picture and a brief bio that includes known aliases, notable characteristics, known lairs, known associated, what they're wanted for, and some other bits of information. Counting them down, the dragons are Borys of Ebe, Utreshimon, Growf!, Chronepsis, Ashardalon, Klauth, Calcryx, Flame, Cyan Bloodbane, and Dragotha. Personally, I say that Infyrana should have been on there!

And it claims that Cyan Bloodbane is a dracolich. As the one who came up with that idea, and has watched the official DL line disavow it for the past four years, I found the Dragon mention of it amusing. :)

I had wondered about that. I've never seen any other references to him being a dracolich, but figured Dragon must have it right, and I'd missed something since Dragons of a Lost Star.
