Dragons, by Megabloks <- have you seen these toys?

http://www.megabloks.com/eng/kids/dragons/fireicedragons/fire_and_ice_dragons.php

These are not new toys. I first saw them a couple years ago. But the product line is growing. I was at Toys R Us last night doing some last minute shopping for my nigh-4-year-old, and my wife was amazed at how I stood transfixed looking at the big Dragons Fire & Ice display.

This line of toys is just so damn cool. I'm so tempted to buy at least one of these dragons to sit on my desk at the office.

And to my Players: don't think I haven't noticed how these toys could easily serve as Huge and Gargantuan minis in D&D.

I'm just in awe of the imagination potential in these toys.

I've seen these around (I have a 6-year old who's totally in to Legos) and I've considered using them as well. I've only seen them for sale in larger sets. Can you buy just a dragon?

Along the same lines, I bought the big Heroscape box (http://www.hasbro.com/heroscape/) for my family for Christmas ($26 for the big box at my local department store). It has a large dragon mini in it as well.

To derail things a hair, my local game store has Heroscape for $69.99! The MSRP is $39.99, and I bought it at a department store (Meijer) for $26!! That's nuts!

Having once worked at a game store, I can offer a partial explanation. Small, mom-and-pop gaming stores don't get as big a discount from toy manufacturers as the big chains do, especially on 'mainstream' items (the consequences of buying 5 units of product as opposed to 50,000 units). The store I used to work for had the same trouble when we stocked traditional board games (Monopoly, etc).

Without knowing more about that particular store's situation, though, a 75% markup from MSRP does seem a bit excessive. And even if it's legit (the owners margin on Heroscape is really that poor), they're unlikely to sell many at that price, methinks. That was the reason the store I worked for stopped trying to stock traditional board games and focused on games you weren't likely to find at Toys R Us (like Settlers of Catan).

(The owner of the store I was at was a good guy, but a little too worried about trying to stock anything and everything that a customer might possibly be interested in - not a bad philosophy if you have limitless capital and retail space, but...)

the lava dragon is pretty cool [costly though ] i have the 'Egg' smoke dragon myself.

McFarlane's Dragons should be on the After Christ-Mass wishlist of a lot of geeks

My youngest son has half a dozen or so of the MegaBloks dragons. We put one of them to good use as an Adult Blue Dragon a few adventures back. (We've also used Godzilla as an Abyssal Tyrannosaurus Rex.)

One thing I've been meaning to do is stat up a couple of different MegaBloks dragons for use in a Giant Monster Rampage game....
