[Dragon] Contents of Dragon #314

While I'm continually honored to have my articles published in Dragon magazine and overall I'm happy with "Searing Flames: The Ecology of the Salamander," there was a lot of info they cut from the article. I'm sure most of it was due to space, but some of it I thought was essential to the article's purpose. Two of the salamander's special abilities were cut from the Vs. PCs section, some general feats were cut, and the feat changes for salamander rangers were also eliminated. I also broke the flamebrother down as a monster class a la Savage Species and updated the salamander entry for 3.5E. I'm thinking of making those items available on my website as a web enhancement for the article...would anyone be interested?

Why not write to Paizo and ask if they would post it as a web enhancement for the article on their site?

They've done so before, so the concept wouldn't be too out-there for them; likewise, their website could use some more content like that to draw us to it, since their web-presence remains, IMHO, Paizo's greatest weak point to date.

Better to ask Paizo to put cut material as web-enhancement than putting it on your website and risking the same thing WotC did with Sean K. Reynolds.

Yeah, Southern Oracle, please do ask Paizo to place it as a web enhancement or put it up as your own (though theformer sounds reasonable, I noticed, too, that Sean K. Reynolds had a couple of his articles taken down because WotC said they'd place it up as a Web Enhancement).

That's a lot of crunchy material Dragon cut out. Why do they do that? So much juicy stuff, all wiped out just like that. The article would be greater than it is were they to leave it alone.

Does Dragon have something against crunch material? I say the more crunch the better!

I'd do what others have suggested first. Write Paizo and ask them about it. Since you submitted it to them, it is now their property (even the stuff left on the cutting room floor). I'd ask first before posting it.

You are really starting to annoy me. The 'Give ME!!' posts portray your own ignorance of the fact that there are considerations that go into what is published beyond what would satisfy you. And the incredibly dumb way you ascribe evil or irrational intent to whatever little setback befalls your fanboy-dom doesn't help either.

Thank you, everyone, for your advice. I'll contact them when my plate has cleared a bit.

Alzrius, I'll have to take your word that Paizo has had web enhancements in the past...I can find no supplementary material on their website.

Richards, I'm glad you liked the article; it was fun to write.

Now, what do I write about next? :p

CAMPAIGN CLASSICS - This special issue returns D&D gamers to their roots. We're presenting an article from nearly every D&D campaign ever produced, from Al-Qadim to Taladas. Each article takes some part of these campaigns settings and presents it updated for D&D 3.5. This issue also features a history of the D&D campaign settins by Stan!
Holy sweet googly-moogly!

Did those at Paizo suddenly land on their heads? Not only is this extremely useful, it's also extremely interesting. I'm *very* surprised this hasn't come out sooner... and all in one issue, no less.

I'm impressed.
