Dragon Devotee + Dragon Disciple?

Can a character with 5 levels of Dragon Devotee, which adds the Draconic template, then advance in the Dragon Disciple PrC, which grants the abilities of half-dragon? While I haven't found anything that explicitly forbids it, it does seem like the character would be doubling up on stat bonuses that are granted by both templates.

Among other things, the Draconic subtype gives you the Dragonblood subtype which basically says that you are considered to be a dragon whenever such a thing is relevant (feat prereqs, certain spells, sources of extra damage, etc.).

Dragon Disciple has a prereq that you can not already be a dragon.

So I would say you couldn't take both.

Now, it does look like you could take four levels of Dragon Devotee and switch over, but its that fifth level that kills you.

Do four 4 levels of Dragon Devotee, 10 levels of Dragon Disciple, 1 level of Dragon Devotee. Then 3 levels of Half-Dragon Paragon. Make sure to add extra cheese with metabreath feats and the feat allows extra uses of your breath attack. However, I haven't seen the Dragon Diciple so I don't know if this is possible.

ISTR that the whole raison d'etre for the D.Devotee was to allow fighter-types into Dragon Disciple, particularly NPC fighter types.

It would be very silly if it explicitly prohibited exactly that. :)

Thanks, -- N

While the text on the class does mention this, they suggest taking three levels of Devotee before switching to Disciple. (Third level Devotee gets you spellcasting as a Sorc 1, for meeting Disciple prereqs).

And Dragon Devotee is from Races of the Dragon.
