Dragon Apotheosis: At 10th level, a dragon disciple takes on the half-dragon template. His breath weapon reaches full strength (as noted above), and he gains +4 to Strength and +2 to Charisma. His natural armor bonus increases to +4, and he acquires low-light vision, 60-foot darkvision, immunity to sleep and paralysis effects, and immunity to the energy type used by his breath weapon (see above).

ok, as a dragon disciple, do you actually gain the template at 10th level, along with the listed benefits, or is this simply flavour text? Specifically, does this give the whole caboodle of goodies from having the template added, including the stat boosts, type change, level adjustment, etc, or do you not gain the template at all, thus not taking the alignment shift, gaining the dragon type (thus giving immunity to humanoid targeting spells, such as charm person) etc?

So to clarify, the character does not gain the template at all, and this is simply a redundant piece of text? from the way it's written, it could be taken either way, though it makes much more sense to not apply the template at all.

My interpretation of the rule as written is this: Upon the apetheosis (sp?), the template is fully applied. With the added goodies you get at level 10 you have the entire half dragon template fully applied now.

*nod* Right, at 10th level you finish progressing thru the template and pick up any of the remaining goodies that you hadn't already gained. You don't gain your dragon disciple stuff and then apply the template on top of all that, thereby doubling up on dragony goodness. That would be scary.

But what happens if you have the half-dragon template to begin with, and then take the prestige class ? Do you double up all these draconic bonus, or is it a total waste of time ?

I would argue that you can't take this prestige class if you have the dragon type already. I think this was a part of the class at some point.
