D&D 5E Dragon Heist vs DotMM?

I have other city adventures.

Seems like the 3 I don't have are all flawed, I knew they weren't great it's why I don't have them yet.

Dungeon of the Mad Mage sounds best and it was the one I was leaning towards. I've flicked through them at the FLGS and grabbed Strahd because while it's not my thing it was the last copy and has been out a while.

Now, to be fair, I was only a player in the Ravenloft module, but, I found it to be very strong. Excellent sandbox with tons and tons of flavor. But, I was player, so, it might be that my DM was just that good. Which is entirely possible.

It's not that I'm just not a fan of Ravenloft/Gothic horror etc.

Because it has a good reputation and the other 3 not so much I bought it regardless.

I've only played or DM'd some of the APs, but read through the rest. Ravenloft is the best of the lot, IMO. Probably has the least "assembly required" by the DM, which I appreciate.

(Saltmarsh not included in that ranking; I have a hunch it may challenge CoS for top slot.)

Yeah, a big regret is that I can't run CoS. One of my players has already been through it with another group. All of the other players have played Ravenloft in different editions.
And another player has been through Saltmarsh in a previous edition.
Man, WotC needs to create more new material instead of reprinting old adventures. Haha

Or make the new material they are creating as good as the reprints.

Seems to me they are just trying too hard to make the new stuff "innovative" instead of good.

EDIT: What I think is going on is that they are trying to appeal to the 2% of the market...like the people who hang out on Enworld...that has seen it all and done it all and would be disappointed by another adventure that followed well known patterns and tropes. But, hey, they lost a lot of those people with 5e anyway.

I see what you mean. The adventure of "Lost Mines of Phandelver" is widely considered to be pretty good, and it's completely well-known patterns and tropes.
A "standard," classic-themed D&D campaign would be appreciated.

Just a slight derail: would you mind giving the names of those city adventures? Prepping to run Dragon Heist->Tyranny of Dragons into Ravnica and I have a hard time finding stuff that would play well as side quests in a world-sized city.
